Week 12: The Last Lecture

Being an entrepreneur is not a small task. It is not something to be taken lightly, and it is not something that you can just jump straight into. If you fall into that track, then you will fall straight onto your face down the road. It will not go well for you. Being an entrepreneur takes a lot of hard work and more importantly, it takes a lot of long planning. As far as direction goes, I think that I would definitely recommend to find a book or two or three on how to start out being an entrepreneur. That will be a great guide for you in your path to becoming one. There are a few different types of entrepreneurs too. You can start up your own company or business, which is the most typical way, but there are also buying into a franchise or buying an existing company. Those are two other ways that I have learned, and each of those have their upsides and their downsides. Franchises can be great because you won’t have to start up anything. It will already be there and will b...

Week 11

This week was the second to last week that we will have in this class. It is important for us to be able to internalize the lessons that we will learn in this life. This week we talked about learning to become financially independent. Financially independent means that we are not necessarily rich, but that we are able to have enough money to sustain our lifestyle that we will have been living in our life. This could be the types of bills that are coming in to our life, or the food that we buy, or any other things in our life. There are ways that we are able to sustain ourselves, without becoming extremely rich. We can put a portion of our paycheck into a savings account, and another part of it into another account that will go towards emergencies. This will be for health bills, or blown out tires, or anything like that that we will not be able to plan for in our lives. When we have that slush fund, it can be allocated for anything that we stand in need of. We also briefly talked about ...

Week 10

Week 10 was all about reaching our peaks and being able to see the highest that we can to be able to reach our goals in life. We each read a case study about a pair of guys that were wanting to buy a company and they were choosing between a few different companies. Four to be exact. I chose the one about the golf supplies because they had the most amount of clients and the best road to success. This was important to them because if they have clients then they will be able to generate the most amount of income possible. Then I chose that we need to do the same in our lives. When we do the same in our lives, then we will be able to be successful as well. Buying a franchise is good, starting a company from scratch is good, but buying a company that is already good is also awesome. This is good because when you buy a company like that, you are able to then already have the footwork done for you and you don't really have to worry too much about the nitty gritty of starting up a company....

Week 9

Week 9 we talked about how well we need to prepare for the future. We talked about successful businessman and successful businesswomen who know how to have success. They are able to have the amount of success needed to provide for not only themselves but also the rest of their family for the rest of their life. We also finalized and made sure that we had the amount of money needed to be able to donate to kiva which is the place that you can donate money to help out investors and entrepreneurs from around the world in third world countries. We chose to help people in Paraguay with food. It will help those who might not be able to afford their own food. I know that that would be so hard if you couldn't afford food. Food is a necessity of life, and without food you cannot survive, let alone be an entrepreneur. I also learned a lot of motivational tools that can help me to be successful in my own life. This is important because when I am successful, then I am able to create opportuniti...

Week 8

In this week we talked a lot about how we can be a better steward over our time. we talked about how we need to always be vigilant because when we are not vigilant then we will end up suffering and that is not what we need to do in life. When we suffer, we do not bring to pass happiness in our life. Instead, we bring to pass things that we do not want to have happen. We talked about Burt’s bees and how the company started up. That was an eye opener to me because I knew about that company already, but I did not know much about the specifics on how they came to be or how they came to be successful. They knew that the way to do this was the way that they wanted to, which was to keep things slow moving and slower paced. But obviously they also wanted to make sure that they could grow up their company, and that would require them to move their business to another place. This was a big decision for them, and they knew that they really wanted to make the right one. I can ...

Week 7

In introduction to entrepreneurship this week we talked about motivation. We talked about why things need to happen in order to bring to pass other things in our life. We also talked about why those things happen. I got out of this class period that things don’t always go as you plan, and that is okay. If things don’t, then you just need to shake it off and have that persistence and motivation to keep going through life. This will create a work drive that is unparalleled. Steve jobs is a great example of this, because when he started his company, he built it in such a way that he ended up getting fired from it. He then came back, and joined in. He could have given up, but then he didn’t want to. He instead persevered and got through it to eventually climb back up the ladder to the top of Apple. And look how successful he was in doing so! I think that we all need to learn from his example and persevere to become the greatest that we can possibly become. This will come from us not giving...

Week 6

Week 6 was mainly about being able to know when to and when not to take risks. Risks can be all good or all bad, depending on what way you look at it. Risk taking is important because if you do not ever take risks, then you will not ever be able to survive in the real world. Surviving in the real world needs to have risks accosted with it because if you do not take them, then you will never have the chance to grow or to learn. Growing and learning are key characteristics of becoming a successful entrepreneur. If they are scared to take any risks at all, then they will not be able to see the big picture and therefore will not be able to have the most about of money made, or change made, or whatever their goal is as an entrepreneur. Risk taking is vital to success. We learned that when we are willing to risk things, tat we are also therefore willing to risk the amount of space needed to grow. These risks could be money, they could be time, they could be employees hired, they could be a n...
